Why Hibiscus and Shea Butter?

Hibiscus Infusion: The Star Ingredient

Hibiscus is a powerhouse of antioxidants, which help protect the skin from free radicals and delay signs of aging. It also contains natural acids that gently exfoliate, brighten the skin, and improve its texture, leaving it smooth and supple. The natural pink hue of hibiscus adds a beautiful touch to this cream.

Shea Butter: Deeply Nourishing and Protective

Shea butter forms the base of this luxurious cream. It locks in moisture, softens the skin, and helps repair its natural barrier. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it excellent for calming irritated or sensitive skin. Shea butter also has anti-aging benefits, improving elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Ingredients for 100 g of Cream:

  • Hibiscus infusion: 58.5 g (made with 70 g distilled water and 1 tablespoon dried hibiscus flowers)

  • Shea butter: 25 g

  • Cetyl alcohol: 5 g

  • Emulsifier: 3 g (Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Olivem 1000 or Glyceryl Stearate & PEG 100)

  • Glycerin: 5 g

  • Hyaluronic acid: 1 g

  • Vitamin E: 1 g

  • Preservative: 1 g (15–20 drops)

  • Rose essential oil: 0.5 g (about 10 drops)

  • Vanilla fragrance oil: 3 drops (optional)

  • Xanthan gum: Pinch (optional, for improved texture)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Hibiscus Infusion:

    • Combine 70 g of distilled water with 1 tablespoon of dried hibiscus flowers.

    • Cover and let it sit in a water bath until the infusion is rich in color and aroma.

    • Remove from the water bath and strain the infusion. Measure 58.5 g for the recipe.

  2. Melt the Fat Phase:

    • In a separate container, weigh 25 g of shea butter, 5 g of cetyl alcohol, and 3 g of emulsifier.

    • Melt these ingredients together in a water bath.

  3. Combine the Phases:

    • Gradually add hot hibiscus infusion and blend it with the melted fat phase while mixing continuously.

    • The mixture will start as liquid but will thicken as it cools.

    • Speed up the cooling process by placing the container in a bowl of cold water while stirring.

  4. Add the Remaining Ingredients:

    • Once the mixture reaches a creamy consistency, add:

      • 5 g of glycerin

      • 1 g of hyaluronic acid

      • 1 g of vitamin E

    • For a lovely aroma, add 10 drops of rose essential oil and 3 drops of vanilla fragrance oil (optional).

    • Add a pinch of xanthan gum to improve the texture and prevent separation.

    • Finally, mix in 1 g of preservative.

  5. Store the Cream:

    • Transfer the cream to a clean, disinfected container.

    • The cream will thicken further after a few hours. With preservative, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 6 months.

Benefits of This Cream:

  • Hydrates and protects: Locks in moisture and soothes dry, cracked skin.

  • Anti-aging properties: Hibiscus and shea butter help improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines.

  • Versatile use: Ideal for face, body, hands, feet, and even chapped lips during colder months.

  • Gentle on all skin types: While it’s perfect for dry, sensitive, or mature skin, it can be used by anyone looking for a nourishing skincare solution.
